Arthur Conan Doyle must have died a thousand deaths
No matter how irregular the headline of this blog might seem, it’s certainly less irregular then The Irregulars that I just binge-watched.
It was definitely the word ‘Sherlock’ that got me locked into the series but every episode I saw made me question the intention of the maker or his overzealous imagination. Before you start reading ahead I must caution you that there will be spoilers. So if The Irregulars is there in your watch-list you better shift this blog in your that list, just after the Tom Bidwell show.
Well blame my mind but it just found a similarity between Tom’s surname and the plot. Bidwell rhymes with farewell and yes that’s exactly what the creator has done to the magnetic character of Sherlock Holmes, created marvelously by Arthur Conan Doyle. The British writer must have been miffed more than me if he were alive.
After the very obvious thing that disappointed me - stripping the famous fictional detective of his brilliant sleuthing skills marked by Mind palace and unmatched deductive powers, were the four teens, who later become five. John Watson who has learnt the trade of solving grave cases Takes the group of four non-talented and inexperienced kids from the streets. Jessica’s case is quite understandable given that she had great powers like her mum, but what about Spike, Billy and Bae or Beatrice. Why will they conduct an investigation on behalf of Watson? And why should people oblige them?
It seems Tom hated Sherlock, like people in the novel, for his lack of social skills, rude behaviour. Otherwise I can’t understand why would he sketch the maverick sleuth as powerless, turn him into a drug addict, and a lovestruck chap who vomits, urinates and blabbers about tea. I, like other Sherlock fans kept waiting for Sherlock to come back to his original element given the fact that he was sober towards the end. Frankly saying, no fan would have felt an iota of loss when Sherlock is sucked into the rip at the end. For us he died long ago in the story.
Not just the characters but even their orientations change in The Irregulars. Watson is no longer married to a beautiful woman but he is gay and in love with, you know who, Sherlock. Why twist the plot so much that it breaks hearts. This destroyed the original relationship, the friendship, the close bond that Sherlock and Watson shared with each other so much so that Watson went into depression when Sherlock stage suicide attempt.
Moving ahead, the paying scene of Bae and Leo was so disappointing. It also shows how confusing Beatrice was. Well, coming to Prince Leo first, the chap fans in love with Bae, hides his identity, promises that he will not go and then tells her at the ebd that he needs to do hus duties and go bavk and marry someone else. We understand the huge gap between the two, but Tom could have given the fragile boy some spine. And Beatrice, oh Beatrice. When you knew that he was a prince, you were angry but when he informed that he needs to go and marry someone else, you suddenly became so practical, sympethatic and easy to let go your love, just like that!
Anyway, watch it till the end to know who opened the rip and enjoy some interesting cases marred by mystery and evil powers.
